Shalom Meir Tower acquired a poor reputation in Tel Aviv for two reasons: It is a tremendous modernist high-rise in one of the quainter, more romanticized neighborhoods in the city, and also, in order to build it, one of the oldest and what is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the city was torn down. It dominated the skyline of Tel Aviv as the tallest building in the country for over three decades.
